TITLE
"The Rankings of Risk Management and Insurance Journals and
Tenure and Promotion Requirements at Business Schools,"
Journal of Insurance Issues,
Michael J. McNamara and Phillip T. Kolbe. Fall 1996, Vol. XIX, No.
2, pp. 183-191.
ABSTRACT
The perceived quality of risk management and insurance publications is important to
professors who publish in these journals. It is also important to deans, chairpersons,
colleagues, and others who evaluate research productivity. Through a survey of business
college deans and their representatives at schools offering risk management and insurance
coursework, quality ratings and rankings were obtained for risk management and insurance
journals. In addition, relative value scores for presentations of research results at
regional and national meetings were obtained. Based on the journal and conference
presentation ratings, overall measures of research productivity for tenure and promotion
were established.
